Influencing factors of Sichuan consumers' purchase intention on pet products based on consumer psychology theory

Abstract (English)

Health-conscious consumers showed a growing preference for the selection of pet foods over traditional foods for their pet consumption. This study discussed factors affecting the change in consumer behavior based on the consumer psychology theory toward pet foods. The influencing factors of this study were herd psychology, realistic psychology, preference psychology, advantage-taking psychology, face psychology, and comparing psychology relating to purchase intention. The purpose of this study was to explore the influence of consumer psychology theory for Sichuan pet-owner based on gender and age differences with purchase intention on pet product consumption; evaluate the influencing factors of herd mentality, true-seeking psychology, preference psychology, taking advantage psychology, face psychology, and comparison psychology impacting pet product purchase intention in Sichuan, and; suggest feasible proposals for improving consumer psychology and promoting pet products for pet owners in Sichuan. Four hundred twenty completed questionnaires of Sichuan consumers were collected through the online WeChat platform by random sampling in June 2022. The results showed that all influencing factors impacted pet owners' purchase intention through the consumer psychology theory. Further suggestions were created to improve pet food consumption through the respective consumer psychology theory.
